Intro to Pants Fitting: Sepia Pants
In this 6-week class, we’ll explore the art of a comfortable, personal fit and deep-dive into pants construction using the Sepia Pants sewing pattern by Closet Core.
You'll learn how to read your body's unique geometry, and by the end of this series, you won't just have a new pair of trousers - you’ll have a refined toolkit of fitting and finishing skills that you can apply to future garments in your handmade wardrobe.
SKILL LEVEL: Confident beginner to intermediate (ages 16+)
This is a great project if you’ve sewn a few garments and want to take your fitting skills to the next level. For this class, you must be able to sew a straight seam, backtack, and understand seam allowance.
DATES/TIMES:
Fridays, 5:30-8:30PM
August 14, 21, & 28, and September 4, 11, & 18
(6 sessions, 18 total hours of class time)
SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN:
Pants fitting and adjustments
Patch pockets
Elastic, drawstring, and waistband casing
Darts
Buttonholes
Curved seams
Professional finishes
WHAT TO BRING:
Light- to midweight linen, cotton ikat, chambray, and broadcloth; lightweight denim, twill, and canvas (under 10 oz)
For fabric requirements, review the size chart and yardage on the pattern website
2-3 yards of fabric to create test fit muslins (consider muslin fabric, bedsheets, or other thrifted fabric)
Notions:
1.5" waistband elastic (see pattern website for amount)
Lightweight fusible interfacing, 1/4 yd (for 58" wide)
Optional: Drawstring, 1.5–2 yards; can be replaced with drawstring sewn from self fabric
Thread in matching color
Optional: Topstitching thread
Basic sewing kit: scissors, snips, seam ripper, pins, rulers, chalk (we also have these tools available to borrow in the studio)
WHAT'S INCLUDED:
Studio sewing machines are provided. You may bring your own machine if you prefer.
Sepia Pants Sewing Pattern (Printed A0 copy and digital copy - the studio will purchase your pattern for you so that each person has a copy

CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you need to cancel, please contact the studio as soon as possible. Cancellations more than 3 days before the class starts will receive credit towards a future class. Cancellations less than 3 days are non-refundable. Each class must have at least three participants in order to run. Marengo Studio reserves the right to cancel this class if we do not have enough participants (you will be notified of a cancellation at least 48 hours ahead of the class start and may choose a full refund or credit towards a future class).
